Mission
Depression is the absence of hope in an individuals life. It can mean different things to different people. Some may feel that they cannot escape the sadness. Maybe that is you at this time in your life. Perhaps you are struggling to fit in, be accepted by your peers, find the right job, or career. There is a lot of pressure placed on young people today, and it seems to be getting worse. Depression can feed the exact dose of happiness or sorrow at any given time, day or night. Depression isn't the end though. We can choose our beginnings and our endings. We can choose how the story will start, the climax, and the final relief that its all over and we made it through to the next moment.
There are always choices on which path you want to take, there is always hope...and help is there. When my life was in a similar place, listening to music would be my crutch, something to hold onto as I sunk my mind into the lyrics and rested in those thoughts. This created moments of peace. I can tell you one thing though, looking back now, much of my pain has become some of the best years of my life. I have gathered so much inner knowledge from these experiences, and this has become my mission, to pass a message of hope onto others.
It's hard for me to talk about depression now when I am not feeling it. I can remember when it came at me like a wave, sometimes right out of the blue and hit me so hard I couldn't feel much of anything. I often completely disregarded my reality and cheated myself by thinking I wasn't worth the time or trouble. I have experienced, many times, those feelings of despair and above all the intense loneliness, that comes from not being accepted, not fitting in, not understanding why. Music helped so much that it has now become my passion, my way to communicate to others who cry out in that same pain.
This is the reason that the concept for my bands, Blake Bliss & Letterbox Black were formed in early 2006/2007 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Entirely self produced, from the basement of my home, Blake Bliss and my singing career became the reality I dreamed about. From this platform I'm trying to shed some new light, and help those who cry out every day over real problems.
I am urging others to do the same and help those in need. I want to be the voice for all those with similar sorrows.
